Ted Perlmutter

Professor, Institute for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University

Professor Perlmutter has longstanding interests in educational concerns related to social media, international peacebuilding, conflict analysis, and the politics of migration and refugees. He has worked in the field on issues of displaced persons, peacebuilding and election violence monitoring in Iraq, genocide prevention in East Africa, and election violence monitoring in Kenya on projects based at Columbia University. Professor Perlmutter teaches courses on forced migration and on human rights and social media in the MA Program at the Institute for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University and on conflict, social networks and communications technology in MSc Program in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution at Columbia University.  He has taught graduate courses at New York University, the College of William and Mary, and the universities of Venice and Siena in Italy. He holds a Ph.D in Sociology from Harvard University.
