Education

We help universities and communities build formal and informal Peace Studies programs, research capacity, and standing in their own communities.

What this looks like

A decade of university partnership

Peacebuilding is slow, relational work. It depends on institutions that can hold relationships across years and across divides, and on people trained to do it.

Partnerships with the University of Duhok in Iraq, Escuela Superior de Administración Pública and FUNRESURPAZ in Colombia, Moomken in Libya, and Al Salaam University in Kuwait have shaped how PREP works.

At NYU

We connect master’s students with peacebuilding professionals and organizations throughout the world to gain international peacebuilding work and research experience through courses and events at the NYU Center for Global Affairs.

  • Peace and Social Transformation Working Group

PREP convenes NYU's cross-campus working group, connecting faculty and researchers from seven schools, institutes and centers.

  • Peacebuilding Career Coaching

One-to-one coaching and a year-round series of career events for students and young alumni.

  • Non-resident Affiliated Researchers Program

The program, now in its seventh year, gives early-career peacebuilding professionals space to pursue their own work within PREP's intellectual community.

  • Workshop in Applied Peacebuilding

Taught every spring since 2011 by PREP Director Dr. Thomas Hill. Students spend the semester learning needed field skills and designing projects with partner organizations, then implement them during the summer — most recently with EcoPeace Middle East, Youth Speak, the UN University for Peace, and UNDP Malawi.

  • Joint Research Seminar in Peacebuilding

A two-course sequence pairing NYU students with researchers in Iraq and Colombia: methods and joint proposals first, fieldwork with counterparts second, with opportunities to publish.

  • On-Campus Events

PREP organizes and hosts more than 10 student-focused and public-facing events each year, contributing to the University’s intellectual community and shaping discourse about peace on and off campus.
