Emily Johnson

Graduate Assistant

Emily Johnson is a Graduate Assistant at NYU’s Peace Research and Education Program (PREP). She assists on the “Municipal Leaders Building Peace” project, a participatory action research project that engages two partner organizations: RESURPAZ in Colombia and Moomken in Libya. She is pursuing her M.S. in Global Affairs at NYU with a concentration in Peacebuilding. Her further research interests are in gender, the mitigation of sexual violence, and sex education.

Her bachelor’s degree thesis emphasized the religious and social influences of Latin American culture on teenage pregnancies in Latin American women. Before studying at NYU, Emily served as an English literacy tutor for Spanish speakers in her hometown of Riverside, California. She translated documents and interpreted for asylum seekers from Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua in Blythe, California.

Prior, she volunteered at a local food bank in Riverside, California, and worked as a camp counselor for low-income and homeless campers in Wai’anae, Hawaii.

Emily holds a B.A. in Spanish and Global Studies from La Sierra University.
